Why do cloud transcription services charge recurring fees?

Cloud services pay to process and store recordings and to provide shared workspaces, integrations and support. A paid plan can fund useful ongoing services.

Plaud currently offers a free Starter tier with 300 monthly transcription minutes, alongside paid Pro and Unlimited plans. Otter also offers a free tier and paid plans with different allowances and features. Check the plan you would actually use; a subscription is not required for every cloud workflow.

Your computer does the processing

OneMira runs transcription and its built-in AI on your computer after the required software and model downloads. This local workflow does not need a per-minute OneMira transcription service or a OneMira account.

Budget for the computer and storage you use, including model downloads and backups. If you choose a cloud model service, its fees and limits are separate. You do not need an external AI subscription or API key for the included local workflow.

Your notes are readable local Markdown files, so you can open them in a compatible editor, search them and keep your own backups. The value continues in the files you use for your projects and follow-ups. Check a sample note in the tools you plan to use, and decide where to back it up.

What affects local processing speed?

No monthly minute quota means OneMira does not meter your local transcription. Processing speed still depends on your computer, the chosen model, the language, the recording length and other work running at the same time. Battery, storage and computer capacity remain practical limits.

What if you want a shared cloud workspace?

A managed service can be useful for central administration, shared workspaces and provider-managed model updates. C1 gives you dedicated capture and a local workflow for your own notes. Choose the combination of recording, processing and sharing that serves your work.
